Programme of the International KAMWA Festival 2014

September 4

2 p.m. Opening of the Festival. Press conference, introduction of the participants and partners of the Festival. Presentation of festival projects.

Venue: Scena Molot Festival Club. Admission by invitation.

5 p.m AXE Engineering theatre (Saint-Petersburg). Puppet performance “Mr Carmen”. The Russian engineering theatre “AXE”, a mould breading theatre project, has been developing since 1989. The company focuses on performances within urban space. The AXE theatre develops a visual theatre based on the language of gestures, signs and symbols. The company tours various countries of the world and participates in numerous theatre festivals. http://www.akhe.ru/

7.30 p.m. Radik Tyulyush and CHALAMA project (Tuva-Moscow). CHALAMA is the title of Radik Tyulyush’s second solo album. Radik Tyulyush is the youngest singer of Huun-Huur-Tu, a band from Tuva performing traditional music. The word chalama means colorful ribbons on the branches of a tree in Ovaa, a sacred place in Tuva. For Tuvinians, chalama is a prayer, an offering, a tribute to Nature and Ancestors. Chalama album is the musician’s tribute to the World Tree of Culture, his contribution to the heritage of world music. Project participants: Radik Tyulyush (singing, throat singing, igil, doshguluur, shoor, homus), Sergei Kalachev (fretless bass), Gennadiy Lavrentiev (violin, tambourine, tabla tarang).

10 p.m KAMWA Festival Electronic Stage

DELTA OMEGA (Perm). A young indi-electronic project merging club and experimental musical esthetic. The eclectic style of the band combines ambient, lounge, deep-house and electro-pop. The musicians experiment with the sound mixing electronic sound with live string instruments. Hapanasasa (Kazakhstan). The Swahili world hapanasasa means ‘here and now’, which to a large degree reflects the band’s approach to making music. Hapanasasa is an eclectic mix of musical forms including dub, live ethnic instruments and electronic music. The project participants consider themselves as mediators between the world of space and the world of people. 5 p.m. Art Project “Up In the Sky, down on the Ground and under the Water”. An exhibition of Pavel Mikushev, ethnofuturistic artist from the Republic of Komi. The works of the artist are based on the Finno-Ugric mythology, Komi folklore and ritual images of Perm Animal Style. The artist encompasses not just ethnic culture but also elements of more ancient cultures of the land of Komi. Pavel Mikushev is a constant participant of ethno-futuristic KAMWA projects. In 2011 he took part in land art project “The Myths of the Urals” and the International Forum “The Animal Style in Museum Collection”. It was then when Pavel first saw the collection of Chudian goddesses from the collection of Cherdyn Local Museum. After that he created a series of Cherdyn Goddesses, which is part of the project “Up in the Sky, down on the Ground and under the Water”.

7 p.m. Didzhihart Nazima Nadirova “Dance on the Tightrope of the Soul with the Sun of the Spirit” (Moscow). A multi-media verbal and plastic performance featuring Arbakesh, Mokhsira and Jema Nishanova. A synthesis of arts, where the word/dance/music/image merge into a multilingual and multi-genre flow, involving the audience to WordDance with no regard for territories, religions or nations. This philosophic and mystical Tales of Scheherazade, the mystic of a 13th century Sufi Rumi at the age of digital technologies and total on-line.

10 p.m KAMWA Festival Electronic Stage

Viktor Zhalsanov and UULZALGA proect (Buryatia-France). A joint project of a Buryatian singer and multiinstumentalist Viktor Zhalsanov and French musicians Chris Boye and Philippe Balatier. Uulzalga is an encounter of two musical cultures. The performers transfer the sound of ancient traditional Buryat and Mongol instruments to the future by turning them into electronic form. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5f17efOcvI

Dj set Aleks Zubkerman (Murmansk). Zubkerman is the title of solo works of Alexei Zubkov, a member of NoiseFabrique. Zubkerman is a multi-instrumentalist using various acoustic and electronic instruments: electric balalaika, flute, jaw harp, harmonica, sensor synthesizer, samplers, sound processors. This is real live electronic music with elements of IDM, trip hop, ambient, psychedelic, trance dub. https://myspace.com/zubkerman

September 6

2 p.m. Concert on the Kama river

One of the most anticipated events of the Festival is a two-hour interactive boat trip on the Kama river. The audience will hear new authentic music with elements of hip-hop and dubstep performed by Bulgarian band Oratnitza and female duet Kipri. Both decks of the boat will host interactive stalls, with surprises for the viewers and exciting stories of the Kama river.

7 p.m. Nadishana-Kuckhermann-Metz Trio (Germany) in concert. Each participant of the project is well known to fans of fusion and modern ethno. Their music is largely based on the hanga (a metal percussion instrument) in combination with ethnic wind instruments and electric bass. Each musician is a composer and virtuoso instrumentalist. The concert is preceded by Yulia Surba’s performance “The Stolen Voice”. The musical performance with elements of shadow theatre. The artist performs a part of an ancient Kuzhebar legend in which hero YYsh Aa saves the youngest of the Celestial Sisters and returns frogs’ voices stolen by the Master of Thunder. www.art-ethno.com

10 p.m. Electronic Stage of the KAMWA FESTIVAL

TripleSS (Moscow). The TripleSS music is voyage in the cosmic space of the sound. Music themes of stars, elements, planets and the chaos create a unique rhythmic picture accompanied by enthralling video art. September 7

11 a.m. Perm Day at the KAMWA Festival

The city open air event will take place in the Central Park of Perm and at the adjacent stadium. The programme is rich in exciting events attracting people of different generations.

The first event of the day is the Autumn Fair starting at 11 am. The Fair is devoted to the end of summer, the new harvest and the start of the school year. The visitors will see bread, flower and craft stalls, a farmer food market, a design and hand made market. They can also take part in master classes and make dollies, belts, pots, or visit the stylist’s corner, a village museum, etc.

The next event is the Cycling Art Parade starting at 2 pm at Karl Marx Square. The parade will be followed by the carnival procession “Bright Perm” starting at 3 p.m at the Yunost Stadium.

The last event of open air festival is the Gala concert of the participants of KAMWA 2014 Festival.
